Future Blue Devils start seasons

Several future Blue Devils began their high school seasons last Friday night with big performances. TDD checks in with the next wave of Duke football stars for a recap.

Evrett Edwards: "Our team had a scrimmage against Stone Bridge, and we will open up next week against Franklin County. In the scrimmage I had four pass breakups, three tackles, and one catch for nine yards on offense."

Note: This season Edwards will be lining up at wide receiver, free safety, and cornerback for Woodbridge High.

Mike Ramsay: "We started our season off the right way with a 30-14 victory to move to 1-0 on the year."

"Our team got up 30-0 before we put the second string in after three quarters. As a guard on the offensive line, I don't really have any stats, but our ground game gained just under 300 yards in three quarters."

"I also played defensive tackle and was able to record four tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in the end zone."

"Next week we have a bye and then we play North Cobb Christian the next week."

Quay Chambers: "We lost our first game, but we rebounded and won 35-21 this past week. I scored our last two touchdowns to put the game away. The first touchdown was off an 81 yard kick return, and the second was an interception return for touchdown."

"We have a tough game this coming week when we play Tarboro on Friday. They are the defending state champs in 2A three years in a row."

Jake Kite: We had a tough loss to our cross-town rivals, Patrick Henry, by a score of 24-21. It was a pretty good game both ways. I had a 30 yard touchdown catch to bring us within three points with about three minutes left, but we couldn't get another score after that."

"We are a AA team and they are AAA, os we won't see them again in the playoffs."

"I had five catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns. I am not sure what my defensive stats were at this point."
