Barnes ready to help Duke

Johnell Barnes is a standout wide receiver prospect from Dunbar High and Scout caught up with him to discuss the latest.

Johnell Barnes had early offers from several Division 1 schools including Wake Forest and Northwestern. However, he pulled the trigger in favor of Duke a few months back. He talked about their season so far.

"I think they're doing well," Barnes said. "2-1 is a good start for them."

Barnes, 6-feet and 170, is a polished receiver who runs good routes and knows the game well so early playing time should be in the cards. He talked more about that.

"They're saying they could use me right now," he said.

The talented wide receiver prospect has gotten off to a fast start as a senior, despite not playing in an offense that will throw the ball down the field a lot.

"It's going OK," he said. "I have seven catches for about 180 yards. We have a mobile quarterback this year."
