Gabe Brandner recaps Duke visit

When he committed, South Carolina lineman Gabe Brandner said he needed some time to firm things up with Duke. Since that has happened, the future Blue Devil says he's all in with Duke and recently visited the campus unofficially.

"We came up for the game against NC Central," said Gabe Brandner. "We had a chance to eat lunch at the Yoh Center and meet with Coach Cutcliffe. We also had a chance to meet with Sterling Korona and his family who were also visiting. It was really good to meet a future teammate and I'm glad we'll be on the same team going forward."

So far this season Brandner and Heathwood Hall sit at 2-3 on the season with Brandner playing on both sides of the line of scrimmage. In his most recent action, Brandner recored 11 stops against Orangeburg Prep. At Duke he projects as an interior offensive lineman most likely.

"I've been in touch with Coach Jones and Coach Latina about that, and the plan seems to be that I'll most likely be red-shirted next season."

One thing the future Blue Devil believes, however, is that Duke is on the right path and building a positive direction for the future. It's why Brandner turned down several offers including childhood favorite Clemson in favor of Cutcliffe's program.

"It's definiltey headed in the right direction, and I'm really excited to be a part of it. Duke simply overmatched NC Central, and then against Memphis they got 500 yards of offense - there's not really much to say aside from that."
