International Alumni Update: Jan 14

Tracking former Blue Devils playing their professional ball overseas

On Saturday, David McClure and Neptunas went to Latvia's VEF Riga in VTB United League action, and fell 94-89 as a poor third quarter gave them too big of a gap to overcome.  David had 2 points in 17 minutes off the bench.  His new teammate, ex-Old Dominion player Valdas Vasylius had 32 points and Rashaun Broadus had 11 points.  In the win, ex-Texas A&M player Antanas Kavaliauskas had 21 points and 10 rebounds, ex-St. Mary's player Earl Rowland had 20 points, and ex-Pitt player Donatas Zavackas had 13 points.  Here is the box score.

  Shay Selby and Strakonice started well at Kara Trutnov, but were overmatched in the second half as they lost 94-62.  Shay had 16 points in 30 minutes.  Ex-BYU player Ambrosia Anderson had 25 points and 11 rebounds in the win.  Here is the box score.

  Chante Black missed Samsun's game against Kayseri and they slumped to another defeat as a terrible start left them with a big deficit that ended up being 82-68.  Megan Frazee had 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists.  Here is the box score.

  Mistie Bass and Sheana Mosch squared off with Mistie and Lyon building a second half lead to beat Sheana and Charleville 57-42.  Mistie had 20 points and 7 rebounds in 31 minute and Danielle Page had 12 points.  Sheana had 7 points in 31 minutes in the losing effort.  Here is the box score.

  Carrem Gay and Toulouse faced fellow promoted team Perpignan in a good game that saw them give up the lead late and lose 74-68.  Carrem had 14 points in 33 minutes as the team did not have incoming player Chay Shegog as more former Duke players get UNC teammates.  In the win, ex-Florida International player Iva Ciglar had 27 points and ex-Tennessee player Angie Bjorklund had 11 points.  Here is the box score.

  On Sunday, Shavlik Randolph returned to the lineup as the Foshan Lions faced the Zhejiang Lions.  The game went into overtime before they won 129-119.  Shavlik did not miss a beat with 44 points and 17 rebounds in only 34 minutes.  Doron Perkins had 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.  In the loss, ex-Virginia player Gary Forbes had 34 points and 6 rebounds and ex-NBA player and Shavlik's teammate in Puerto Rico last year, Peter John Ramos, had 27 points and 16 rebounds.  Here is an English-language box score.

  Daniel Ewing and Besiktas continued to improve their play in the domestic league as they beat Mersin 83-75.  Daniel had 6 points in 22 minutes.  Curtis Jerrells had 17 points and Patrick Christopher had 12 points.  In the loss, ex-Arizona player Michael Wright, also known in Turkey as Ali Karadeniz, had 22 points and 8 rebounds, ex-Tennessee player J.P. Prince had 18 points and 8 rebounds, and ex-Chicago State player David Holston had 16 points.  Here is the box score.

  DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade continued their winning run with a 90-65 triumph over Cedevita of Croatia in Adriatic League play.  DeMarcus had 7 points in 20 minutes and Elton Brown had 12 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Indiana player Bracey Wright had 22 points and 6 assists and ex-Michigan State player Goran Suton had 13 points.  Here is the box score.

  In Spain, it was the big showdown in Madrid between Marty Pocius and Jon Scheyer.  The two coaches shuffled their lineups to make both players starters as Marty and Real Madrid showed off their better depth and pedigree as they rolled to a 90-54 win over Jon and Gran Canaria.  Marty had 4 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes and Jon had 4 points and 3 assists in 24 minutes including a fast break layup after stealing the ball from Marty.  In the win, Sergio Rodriguez had 20 points and 6 rebounds, Nikola Mirotic had 15 points, Jaycee Carroll had 13 points, and Rudy Fernandez had 10 points while Ryan Toolson had 13 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.  Here is the box score.
