Prospect Profile: Dominic McDonald

Signing Day profile, analysis, and recruiting recap for Florida linebacker prospect

Name: Dominic McDonald
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 245 pounds
Position / Projected Pos: LB / ILB

Ranking: Three-star linebacker, ranked #114th nationally

Recruiting Recap: Zanca was one of the earliest commits for the Tennessee program in the class of 2013. However, when the coaching change occurred, Duke pounced and earned a visit and then commitment from McDonald.

McDonald then enrolled for the spring semester and will be available for Spring Practice in March.

"They want me to come in and compete for a spot. I am going to enroll in January wherever I go because I want to come in and play Spring ball so that I can get on the field as a true freshman. The Duke coaches have told me it is possible to play as a true freshman."

The Blue Devil system was a major attraction:

"Their system is a 4-2-5 which means the linebackers have all eyes on them - it's just you and the other guy in the box. That's a great situation for me because I play better under pressure."

Scouting Report: "This is a high motor kid that has some versatility. He has put his hand down and played on the defensive line and has played linebacker. He has the body and frame of a middle linebacker. He's good in the box and a sound tackler. He also shows the ability to play inside-out and get to the perimeter to make plays." - Jamie Newberg,

Projected 2013 Role: Whenever a kid enrolls early at Duke, the thinking is that he'll be in the mix to avoid a redshirt. That's certainly the case for McDonald who is very likely to have his name on the opening day two-deep in Durham.
