Weight: 260 pounds
Position / Projected Pos: OT / OT
Ranking: Two-star offensive tackle ranked #150 nationally
Recruiting Recap: Following his initial decision in which he picked Duke over offers from Air Force and Appalachian State, Brandner got the news that his in-state favorite, Clemson, had also jumped in with an offer as well. Duke fans worried that the Tigers would be able to pull him away, but a visit to Durham worked things out.
"I'm committed to Duke. This trip helped me see what my life will be like for the next five years and what my life could be like after football is over. I'm interested in engineering, and this trip was a good way to see all that Duke offers."
Expert Analysis: "Brandner has great length and the frame to add the needed weight to play offensive tackle in the ACC. He has shown solid balance, but needs to work on his footwork to handle those rush ends off the edge. He has good arm length, but really needs to work on his strength, his quickness off the ball, and his ability to sustain blocks. He is more of a raw offensive lineman that will need a couple of years to develop." - Chad Simmons, Scout.com
Noteable: "I always thought I was a baseball player until I did a strength and speed competition during my sophomore year. After that I was invited to a summer football camp where I performed well. I uses that was the start of my focus on football for my junior season." - Gabe Brandner
"I'm 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds at this point. My best forty yard dash time has been 4.90 seconds. I have maxes of 405 on the squat, 305 on the bench press, and 285 on the power clean." - Gabe Brandner
Projected 2013 Role: As with most linemen, Duke will redshirt Brandner in 2013 with eyes on him working towards taking over one of the tackle or guard spots by the 2015 season.
