International Alumni Update: Feb. 19

Tracking former Blue Devils playing their professional ball overseas

On Saturday, Jess Foley and the Townsville Fire finished their regular season with a 66-57 loss to the Bendigo Spirit.  Jess had 15 points and 7 rebounds in 33 minutes.  In the win, ex-Nebraska player Kelsey Griffin had 19 points and 11 rebounds, ex-Oregon player Gabrielle Richards had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and ex-WNBA player Kristi Harrower had 10 points.  Jess and Townsville now enter the playoffs with each game putting them on the brink of elimination.  Here is the box score.

  Shay Selby and Strakonice are now in the second part of the season, where they only play against the other three teams that finished in the bottom third of the league with the two teams at the bottom of the standings at the end getting relegated from the league for next season.  Strakonice is better than the other teams in this predicament and started with a 75-59 win over DSK.  Shay had 8 points in 26 minutes and Brittney Thomas had 19 points and 13 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Notre Dame player Melissa D'Amico had 12 points.  Here is the box score.

  Monique Currie and Perfumerias Avenida beat Cadi 74-52 after taking over in the second half.  Monique had 4 points in 12 minutes.  Marta Fernandez had 14 points and Le'Coe Willingham had 12 points and 6 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

  Alana Beard did not play as Wisla Krakow finished their regular season against league leaders Polkowice and lost 75-61.  Tina Charles had 30 points and 7 rebounds.  A couple of Alana's Los Angeles Sparks teammates were key in the win as ex-Stanford player Nneka Ogwumike had 29 points and ex-Virginia player Sharnee Zoll had 12 points and 8 assists.  Here is the box score.

  Lindsey Harding has not arrived in Turkey yet, but her new team Galatasaray had a tougher than expected time against Istanbul rivals Besiktas before winning 73-59.  Galatasaray is one of the powerhouse teams in European Women's Basketball.  Her teammates include Sylvia Fowles, WNBA player Ann Wauters, ex-Houston player Sancho Lyttle, ex-USC player Shay Murphy, and ex-Stanford player Sebnem Kimyacioglu.  In this game, Fowles had 11 points and 7 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-UConn playe Tiffany Hayes had 10 points.  Here is the box score.

  In France, it was the Round of 16 in the French Cup and Sheana Mosch and Charleville drew one of the easiest opponents, third-tier side Aulnoye.  While they struggled to take a decisive lead, they eventually rolled to a 75-60 win.  Sheana had 4 points in 30 minutes.  Here is the box score.

  Mistie Bass and Lyon faced fellow top flight side Perpignan and held on to a 57-54 win.  Mistie had 8 points in 26 minutes.  In the loss, ex-Florida International player Iva Ciglar had 15 points and ex-Tennessee player Angie Bjorklund had 10 points.  Here is the box score.

  Carrem Gay and Toulouse had an early lead against their top tier opponents Nantes, but ended up losing 80-70.  Carrem had 4 points in 18 minutes and Chay Shegog had 17 points.  In the win, ex-Siena player Gunta Basko had 16 points and 6 assists.  Here is the box score.

  On Sunday, Shavlik Randolph and Foshan finished their season with a 114-101 win over Tianjin.  Shavlik had 27 points and 14 rebounds in 35 minutes.  Those numbers left him second in the league in scoring and third in rebounding.  In the loss, ex-DII player Sam Daghles had 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists and ex-Rutgers player Hamady N'Diaye had 15 points and 7 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

  Daniel Ewing and Besiktas returned to domestic competition with a solid 74-62 win at Tofas.  Daniel had 6 points in 18 minutes.  Damir Markota had 13 points and 9 rebounds and Patrick Christopher had 11 points.  In the loss, ex-Texas A&M player and Los Angeles Lakers 2009 second round pick Chinemelu Elonu had 15 points and 7 rebounds, ex-DII player Austin Nichols had 14 points, and ex-Gonzaga player Josh Heytvelt had 10 points.  Here is the box score.

  Jon Scheyer and Gran Canaria hosted Murcia and lost 78-68.  Jon had a quiet 14 minutes.  Ryan Toolson had 17 points, Brad Newley had 16 points, and Spencer Nelson had 11 points.  In the win, ex-Wichita State player Joe Ragland had 21 points and ex-Oral Roberts player Marcus Lewis had 11 points and 9 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

  Marty Pocius made his return and got the start as Real Madrid pounded Manresa 104-70.  Marty had 5 points in 19 minutes.  Nikola Mirotic had 23 points and 9 rebounds, Jaycee Carroll had 14 points, Sergio Llull had 11 points, Sergio Rodriguez had 10 points and 14 assists, and Rudy Fernandez had 10 points.  In the loss, 2011 San Antonio Spurs second round pick Adam Hanga had 15 points, ex-Michigan player Josh Asselin had 13 points, and ex-New Mexico player Troy DeVries and ex-Tulsa player Charles Ramsdell had 12 points each.  Here is the box score.

  David McClure and Neptunas hosted Russia's Nizhny Novgorod in VTB United League play and lost 90-72.  David had a quiet 15 minutes.  Valdas Vasylius had 16 points and Rashaun Broadus had 11 points.  In the win, ex-Alabama A&M player Obie Trotter had 17 points and 7 assists.  Here is the box score.

  DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade were back in Adriatic League action with a critical games against city rivals Partizan Belgrade a week after a game filled with fireworks.  After falling behind, they rallied in third quarter to take a lead and eventually win 84-76.  DeMarcus had 6 points in 35 minutes.  In the loss, Davis Bertans, who was drafted in the second round in 2011 and traded on draft day to the San Antonio Spurs, had 23 points.  Here is the box score.  

On Monday, Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen started the next phase of the league competition against the other teams that finished in the upper portion of the standings as they faced Ramat Hasharon and lost 81-58.  Karima had 9 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes.  Ivory Latta had 22 points and Jenna Smith had 11 points and 10 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Arizona State player Briann January had 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, ex-Middle Tennessee State player Alysha Clark had 15 points, and ex-Louisiana Tech player Amisha Carter had 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Here is the box score.
