International Alumni Update: March 23

Tracking former Blue Devils playing their professional ball overseas.

On Thursday, Real Madrid continued to struggle a bit as they play without Marty Pocius as they lost 74-73 at home in Euroleague action against Greece's Panathinaikos.  Rudy Fernandez and Nikola Mirotic had 17 points each and Sergio Rodriguez had 10 points.  In the win, ex-NBA player Roko Ukic had 12 points and 6 rebounds and ex-UMass player Stephane Lasme had 10 points.  Here is the box score.

On Friday, Besiktas finally got their first win of this stage of the Euroleague season as they beat Italy's Montepaschi Siena 72-70 as they continue to await Daniel Ewing's return.  Ricky Minard had 14 points.  In the loss, ex-Cal State Fullerton player Bobby Brown had 19 points and 8 assists and ex-Indiana State player David Moss had 16 points.  Here is the box score.

Kathleen Scheer and the Hobart Chargers beat the Brisbane Spartans 70-56.  Kathleen had 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists in 34 minutes and Lindsay Laur had 27 points and 6 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

Thursday Euroleague games started with Lithuania's Zalgiris Kaunas beating Anadolu Efes of Turkey 79-71.  In the loss, ex-Virginia Tech player Jamont Gordon had 14 points and 7 rebounds, ex-NBA player Semih Erden had 13 points and ex-UCLA player Jordan Farmar had 12 points.  In a battle between Spanish teams, FC Barcelona beat Caja Laboral Baskonia 83-74.  In the win, ex-Michigan State player Erazem Lorbek, who was drafted in the second round in 2005 by the Indiana Pacers and later traded to the San Antonio Spurs, had 16 points, Utah Jazz 2008 second round pick Ante Tomic had 14 points and 8 rebounds, ex-NBA player Juan Carlos Navarro had 14 points adn 6 assists, and ex-Princeton player C.J. Wallace had 13 points.  In the loss, ex-NBA player Maciej Lampe had 21 points and 6 rebounds and ex-NBA player Andres Nocioni had 11 points.  Quin Snyder and CSKA Moscow won 70-66 in Spain at Unicaja Malaga.  In the win, ex-Kansas player Sasha Kaun, who was drafted in the second round in 2008 by the Seattle Supersonics before a draft day trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers, had 16 points and ex-Arkansas player Sonny Weems had 13 points.  In the loss, ex-UConn player Marcus Williams had 12 points and ex-Indiana player Earl Calloway had 10 points.

Friday Euroleague games started with Russia's Khimki Moscow beating Fenerbahce Ulker of Turkey 99-76.  In the win, Petteri Koponen, who was drafted in the first round in 2007 by the Philadelphia 76ers before his rights were traded to the Dalllas Mavericks, had 23 points and 7 assists, ex-NBA player Sergey Monya had 18 points and 6 assists, and ex-Michigan State player Paul Davis had 14 points.  In the loss, ex-New Orleans player Bo McCalebb had 18 points and 7 assists and ex-NBA player David Andersen had 14 points.  In the final game, Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv continued their run as they took a big lead in Greece over Olympiakos before holding on to a 73-67 win.  In the win, ex-DII player David Logan had 20 points, ex-UNC Greensboro player Ricky Hickman had 16 points, and ex-Virginia player Devin Smith had 13 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-NBA player Vassilis Spanoulis had 19 points and ex-Texas A&M player Acie Law had 10 points.

Both Euroleague Women semifinals were on Friday as hosts UMMC Ekaterinburg crushed Bourges of France 73-44.  In the win, Candace Parker had 24 points and 14 rebounds, Diana Taurasi had 16 points, and ex-WNBA player Anete Jekabsone had 11 points as ex-Maryland player Marissa Coleman had 13 points in the loss.  In the other semifinal, Turkey's Fenerbahce pulled away in the second half to beat Good Angels Kosice of Slovakia 68-56.  In the win, Cappie Pondexter had 19 points and 6 rebounds and Angel McCoughtry had 17 points and 14 rebounds as ex-Texas Tech player Plenette Pierson had 23 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
