Tracking former Blue Devils playing their professional ball overseas

On Tuesday, Alana Beard did not play as Wisla Krakow had Game 1 of the semifinal series in Poland against Artego Bydgoszcz and lost 68-63.  Tina Charles had 14 points and 9 rebounds and Erin Phillips had 13 points.  In the win, ex-Syracuse player Julie McBride had 23 points and 6 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

On Wednesday, Alana Beard did not play again as Wisla Krakow tied the series with a 90-63 win at Artego Bydgoszcz as they get ready to host the next two games.  Tina Charles had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Erin Phillips had 17 points and 7 assists.  In the loss, ex-LSU player Kristen Morris had 15 points.  Here is the box score.

Mistie Bass and Lyon had their French Cup semifinal at Lattes Montpellier and fell 71-63.  Mistie had 23 points and 7 rebounds in 30 minutes.  In the win, ex-WNBA player Edwige Lawson-Wade had 11 points.

On Thursday, Daniel Ewing and Besiktas had nothing to play for in their Euroleague visit to Israel to face Maccabi Tel Aviv.  While they were expected to lose, it was far more decisive that anyone could have imagined as they trailed 91-35 after three quarters in the 101-58 dismantling.  Daniel had 2 points in 11 minutes and Ricky Minard had 12 points and 7 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Virginia player Devin Smith had 16 points and 9 rebounds, ex-UNC Greensboro player Ricky Hickman had 16 points, ex-Maryland player Nik Caner-Medley had 15 points, and ex-Virginia player Sylven Landesberg had 10 points.  Here is the box score.

Without Marty Pocius, Real Madrid had a key Euroleague game visiting Quin Snyder's CSKA Moscow and never got going as they lost 81-72.  Rudy Fernandez had 24 points and 6 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Arkansas player Sonny Weems had 21 points and ex-NBA player Nenad Krstic had 16 points.  Here is the box score.

Thursday Euroleague action included Spain's Unicaja Malaga winning 70-64 in Turkey over Anadolu Efes.  In the win, ex-UConn player Marcus Williams had 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists while ex-UCLA player Jordan Farmar had 13 points in the loss.  Greece's Panathinaikos kept Brose winless after winning 82-60 in Germany.  In the win, ex-Maryland player James Gist had 11 points and 7 rebounds, ex-UMass player Stephane Lasme had 11 points, and Sofoklis Schortsanitis, a 2003 second round pick of the Los Angeles Clippers whose rights were later traded to the Atlanta Hawks, had 10 points.  In the loss, ex-NBA player Bostjan Nachbar had 14 points, ex-Florida player Matt Walsh had 12 points and 8 rebounds, and ex-Clemson player Sharrod Ford had 11 points.

Friday Euroleague games started with a critical matchup in Russia, as Spain's Caja Laboral visited Khimki Moscow and escaped with an 86-82 win.  In the win, ex-NBA player Andres Nocioni had 24 points and 6 rebounds, ex-NBA player Maciej Lampe had 21 points, and Nemanja Bjelica, who was drafted in the second round in 2010 by the Washington Wizards and traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves on draft day, had 13 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Michigan State player Paul Davis had 15 points and 7 rebounds, ex-NBA player Sergey Monya had 13 points, ex-Illinois player James Augustine and Petteri Koponen, who was drafted with the last pick of the first round in 2007 by the Philadelphia 76ers before his rights were eventually traded to the Dallas Mavericks, had 12 points each, and ex-Clemson player K.C. Rivers had 10 points.  The next game was meaningless for both teams as Alba Berlin won 77-55 at home in Germany over Lithuania's Zalgiris Kaunas behind 16 points from ex-UNC player Deon Thompson and 12 points from ex-Vanderbilt player Derrick Byars.  Greece's Olympiakos barely scraped past Fenerbahce Ulker 78-73 in Turkey despite the home team having nothing to play for.  In the win, Kostas Papanikolaou, who was drafted by the New York Knicks in the second round and later traded to the Portland Trailblazers, had 16 points, ex-NBA player Vassilis Spanoulis had 14 points and 7 assists, and Georgios Printezis, who was originally drafted in the second round in 2007 by the San Antonio Spurs before five trades moved his rights to the Oklahoma City Thunder, had 12 points.  In the loss, ex-New Orleans player Bo McCalebb had 12 points and 6 rebounds and ex-Xavier player Romain Sato had 12 points.  The final game of the week saw FC Barcelona go from Spain to win 77-69 over Montepaschi Siena even with first place already sealed up.  In the win, ex-JC player Nate Jawai had 22 points and 12 rebounds and former Texas high schooler Marcelo Huertas had 14 points and 6 assists.  In the loss, ex-Cal State Fullerton player Bobby Brown had 15 points and 6 assists, ex-Indiana State player David Moss had 12 points, and ex-Texas A&M player Tomas Ress had 10 points.

The second leg of the first Eurocup semifinal was on Tuesday, as Lokomotiv Kuban brought a 10 point lead from the first game back home to Russia.  They ended up losing the game to Spain's Valencia, but the 5 point margin in a 68-63 defeat still allowed them to prevail 160-155 on aggregate and earn a trip to the final.  For the home side, ex-Florida player Nick Calathes, who was drafted in the second round in 2009 by the Minnesota Timberwolves and traded to the Dallas Mavericks on draft day, had 19 points and 7 rebounds and ex-Xavier player Derrick Brown had 11 points and 6 rebounds.  For the visitors, Serhiy Lishchuk, was drafted in the second round in 2004 by the Memphis Grizzlies before a pair of trades sent his rights to the Los Angeles Lakers, had 10 points and 7 rebounds and ex-Washington State player Thomas Kelati had 10 points.

The second Eurocup semifinal concluded on Wednesday as Bilbao had a lead going into the second game in Spain after last week's win in Ukraine over Budivelnik.  They also won this game 75-53 to take the series 168-136 on aggregate.  Ex-St. John's player Lamont Hamilton had 13 points in the win and ex-Missouri player Leo Lyons had 20 points in the loss.  Bilbao and Lokomotiv Kuban will now face off in the one game final in Charleroi, Belgium.
