International Alumni Update: April 15

Tracking former Blue Devils playing their professional ball overseas

On Saturday, Jess Foley and the Norwood Flames blasted another opponent after beating the Eastern Mavericks 90-54.  Jess had 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in 26 minutes.  Here is the box score.

  Jasmine Thomas and Chevakata were left fighting for 5th place and won the first game of their series with a 77-69 win over 7th place Energia Ivanovo.  Jasmine had 5 points in 32 minutes and Glory Johnson had 22 points and 16 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

  Monique Currie and Perfumerias Avenida were finally able to start their playoff campaign as finishing in 2nd gave them a bye to the semifinals, where they faced 3rd place Girona.  They had to shake off some of the rust, but they held on to a 60-57 win as Monique led the way with 18 points in 32 minutes.  The Florida State duo did their best in the loss as Jacinta Monroe had 14 points and 7 rebounds and Cierra Bravard had 13 points.  Here is the box score.

  Alana Beard continues to be held out of action as she did not play in Wisla Krakow's first game in the finals against Polkowice.  The team fought hard but let a lead slip away in a 71-69 loss.  Tina Charles had 29 points and 11 rebounds and Erin Phillips had 18 points.  In the win, ex-NAIA player Valeriya Musina had 19 points, ex-WNBA player Belinda Snell had 13 points and 6 assists, and ex-Stanford player Nneka Ogwumike had 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

  On Sunday, Lindsey Harding and Galatasaray started the Turkish League Semifinals as they faced 6th place Istanbul University and held on to a 71-69 win with a shuffled lineup.  Lindsey had 9 points in 29 minutes.  Sancho Lyttle had 25 points and Ann Wauters had 11 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-WNBA player Irina Osipova had 15 points and 10 rebounds and ex-Rutgers player Essence Carson had 11 points.  Here is the box score.

  Alana Beard did not play again as Wisla Krakow lost Game 2 of the finals 73-52 to Polkowice.  In the win, Valeriya Musina had 23 points and Nneka Ogwumike had 20 points and 13 rebounds.  Here is the box score.

  Jon Scheyer returned to the starting lineup as Gran Canaria made an impressive comeback to win at FC Barcelona 73-70 with their opponents preoccupied with their Euroleague aspirations.  Jon had 5 points in 24 minutes.  Brad Newley had 18 points, Eulis Baez had 13 points and 7 rebounds, and Spencer Nelson had 12 points.  In the loss, ex-Alaska player Brad Oleson, who was bought specifically to play in domestic league games, had 15 points, ex-NBA player Nate Jawai had 12 points, and former Texas high-schooler Marcelo Huertas had 11 points.  Here is the box score.

  Real Madrid continues to focus on Euroleague games, especially as they are stretched thin without Marty Pocius and dropped a domestic game 64-61 to Monbus Blusens.  Rudy Fernandez had 14 points, Jaycee Carroll had 13 points, and Nikola Mirotic had 12 points and 6 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Purdue player Robbie Hummel, who was drafted in the second round by the Minnesota Timberwolves, had 19 points and 7 rebounds and ex-DII player Benjamin Dewar had 14 points.  Here is the box score.

  DeMarcus Nelson missed a second game in a row due to injury and Red Star Belgrade struggled in his absence, losing 83-76 to Mega Vizura.  Here is the box score.

  On Saturday, the Eurocup final took place in Belgium with Russia's Lokomotiv Kuban taking control and winning 75-64 over Spain's Bilbao.  In the win, ex-Alabama player Richard Hendrix had 14 points and 9 rebounds, ex-Nebraska player Aleks Maric had 12 points and 10 rebounds, ex-Xavier player Derrick Brown had 11 points, and ex-Florida player Nick Calathes, who was drafted in the second round in 2009 by the Minnesota Timberwolves before he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks on draft day, had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.  In the loss, Milovan Rakovic, a second round pick in 2007 by the Dallas Mavericks before he was traded to the Orlando Magic on draft day, had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
