Saxton: "Duke was best for me"

Duke accepted the commitment of Columbus Hartley cornerback Alonzo Saxton Wednesday afternoon, with the three-star recruit pledging to the Blue Devils on the heels of last weekend's unofficial visit.

Columbus Hartley cornerback Alonzo Saxton committed to Duke Wednesday afternoon, choosing the Blue Devils over the likes of Kentucky, Northwestern, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Saxton, 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, visited Duke last weekend with his family and came away greatly impressed.

"I have committed to Duke," Saxton told FOXSportsNEXT Wednesday afternoon. "I had so many great offers, but Duke was just the best choice for me. When I visited there, I just got the best vibes and I could see myself there for the next four years. I talked to their great coaching staff a lot, and spent time with the players."

"It's a program on the rise for sure, and they accomplished a lot making a bowl game last season," he added. "I feel like there are great things happening there. I was there with my grandfather, and he loved it as well. He's a hard person to impress."

The educational opportunities Duke affords its student-athletes was not lost on Saxton either.

"My family values education so much, so this means even more to all of us,' he explained. "The academic reputation of Duke speaks for itself, and it sets me up to succeed in life, long after football is over."

"I'm not sure what I want to study yet, but I knew wherever I was going to go to school it had to be a top academic institution," he continued.

Saxton is listed as a three-star recruit, and is one of the top prospects in Ohio for the class of 2014.
