Education was deciding factor for Bere

Cincinnati (Ohio) Sycamore linebacker Tinashe Bere ended his recruitment with a pledge to Duke on Sunday afternoon. We get more from Bere on his decision.

With his final three schools down to Indiana, Iowa and Duke, linebacker Tinashe Bere had seen enough and issued his verbal pledge on Sunday.

What led to Bere's decision to become a Duke Blue Devil?

"I thought of it this way," explained Bere. "My top schools going into my decision were Indiana, Iowa and Duke. I liked all the coaches and they all showed me a lot of love. But the deciding factor was education. A degree from Duke will take me far in life after football."

Bere, who visited the Duke campus in early April came away enjoying more than just the educational factors at the ACC program.

"I really liked how nice the campus was and the warm weather," said Bere. "The fact some of my high school coaches have a lot of contacts with the coaches at Duke also helped as I've heard nothing but great things about Coach (David) Cutcliffe."

Who did Bere speak with about his pledge?

"Coach (Matt) Guerrieri was my main recruiter," said Bere. "But my dad told me to first call the linebackers coach so I called Coach (Jim) Collins first and then Coach Guerrieri. I then called Coach Cutcliffe and he was excited about my commitment."

As for any concerns about the distance from home, Bere is not concerned.

"There are no worries about the distance from home," stressed Bere. "As long as I'm happy at a college, the distance will not mean anything."
