Duke was Nevada DL's first offer

One of the surprise performers at the SoCal NIKE Camp earlier in the year was Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde defensive lineman Michael Hughes. The tackle has two early offers and interest from several other programs.

Michael Hughes is a big tackle prospect with some athleticism. He ran a very good 5.05-40 (electric) at the NIKE Camp and threw the power ball 38'. He did well in the position and one on one drills as well and has some definite upside to him.

On the recruiting front, Hughes has a pair of offers and strong interest from several other programs.

"Duke was my first offer and UNLV has offered me as well," Hughes said. "I'm also hearing from Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, Florida State, Boise State, Nevada and California," Hughes said. " Oregon and Boise State both sound very interested and want me to camp with them this summer.

"They said if I do well, I could pick up an offer. Nevada said the same thing as well. I'm definitely going to do the Oregon and BSU camps and hopefully I'll have an opportunity to take official visits there in the fall as well."

Hughes said he would like to take all five of his visits if possible.

"Along with Oregon and Boise State, it would be great to go check out Duke, Florida State and Cal," Hughes said. "Duke was just here Wednesday and I have no problem leaving home to play college ball. Cal has a great program and so does Florida State so I like all five of those schools a lot.

"The biggest factor for me in my decision will be my comfort level with the coaching staff. I don't care about depth chart, as long as I'll have a chance to play by my sophomore year, I'm good. I want to have a strong connection with the coaches though, especially my position coach. That's a big deal for me and that will play the biggest role."
