Blue Devils land Florida QB

Duke landed another highly rated prospect on Wednesday afternoon when Miami (Fla.) Coral Reef standout Nicodem Pierre committed while taking an unofficial visit.

Pierre, who is considered a three star prospect by and the nation's No. 52 rated quarterback, chose Duke over offers from Appalachian State, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida International, Kansas State, Louisville, Mississippi State, Nebraska, South Florida, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin among others.

At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Pierre is a player who has the ability to make plays with his legs, but has a powerful arm that allowed him to become a three year starter at the high school level. He is likely to be redshirted in 2014.

On Tuesday Pierre arrived in Durham around noon and was immediate shuttled to visits with head coach David Cutcliffe, as well as the rest of the offensive coaching staff. He then had a chance to take in a business class before meeting with a professor from the marketing department. On Wednesday he toured the academic center, the football center, and had a chance to meet with several Duke athletic department staffers. After campus and football facility tours, Pierre met with Duke athletic director, Dr. Kevin White before circling back around to meet with Cutcliffe and the staff.

In that last meeting, Pierre offered the commitment. He then took to Twitter to make it official:

"I've committed to my dream school," he wrote.

With the addition of the Florida signal caller, Duke now has 12 commitments from the class of 2014. The team is expected to add between two and four more players before National Signing Day.
