In-state WR getting closer to commitment

Josh Cabrera is one of the top uncommitted prospects in North Carolina. The Jacksonville (N.C.) Northside wide receiver is getting closer to making his college decision.

Josh Cabrera is entering the homestretch of his recruitment.

"The schools I've been talking to the most are Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech," said the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Cabrera. "They're the schools that are pursuing me the hardest."

"Duke, UNC, Virginia Tech and Louisville are the main schools I'm considering. I'm also looking at N.C. State a little, but I haven't had that much contact with them."

The only summer trip Cabrera has taken was to North Carolina and he enjoyed his time in Chapel Hill. However, he is hoping to visit a few other schools in the near future.

"I'm going to try to visit Louisville and Virginia Tech before the end of the summer," he said. "If I can't, I'll just take official visits to them. I'm probably going to take all five official visits – Duke, UNC, Virginia Tech, Louisville and probably N.C. State."

He will be looking for certain things when he takes those visits.

"I'm going to be looking at the offense the team runs," he said. "Also, the coaching staff and atmosphere. I want to go to a prestigious academic school, too. All the schools have good academics, so I don't think I have much to worry about there."

Cabrera knows more will be asked of him this season.

"I have to take more of a leadership role this season," Cabrera said. "I have to lead by example, be more vocal and make sure we stay on the same page."

The Northside standout has high goals for his senior campaign.

"Individually, I just want to better myself as a player and person," he said. "I want to improve each day."

"Team-wise, we want to win a state title. That's our only goal. It's going to take hard work and dedication."

He has a tentative timetable for his recruitment.

"I'll probably make my decision during the middle of football season or towards the end," said Cabrera.

Last season, Cabrera finished with 600 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns.

Northside opens their season on August 23 against West Carteret.
