One on one with Diamond Stone

As has been the case in 2014, Duke will have a need to recruit an elite big man in the class of 2015. One of, if not the top prospect on the board is Wisconsin five star center Diamond Stone. We spoke with Stone recently to get an update on recruiting and more.

Can you recap your Team USA Camp experience?

Diamond Stone: It was great with all the guys there. All of the nation's top bigs were there, and I was just trying to compete. It was a real battle.

What did it mean to you to be invited to such a high level event?

It's a really good feeling because you are playing for your country and knowing that there's a lot of guys who want to play for their country, but only a select few get to do it. It's a real honor.

Were there any players you got to know at the camp?

I'm really close with Malik Newman, D.J. Williams, Ivan Rabb, and Kevon Looney. It's like a bunch of my brothers in terms of relationships with those guys.

On the recruiting front, the last time we talked you had mentioned that you were waiting to hear on offers from places like Duke, Kentucky, and North Carolina, is that still the case?

I really am letting my dad and my coaches handle all the recruiting stuff, but I think they have all offered from what I've been told.

Are you personally having conversations with any of the coaches, or are you letting them go through your dad and coaches?

I am getting to talk with some of them. Recently Coach K and Coach Williams came in to visit me at school.

How would you characterize those meetings?

They both went really well. Coach K was there to talk a lot about USA Basketball with me. He told me it's a great program to be a part of and to keep competing. He also told me to keep working hard for that. It was recently that this happened...he and Coach Williams were in last week.

Did they talk recruiting at all?

Not really. We didn't touch on that stuff, but I know they talked to my dad and coach. Right now I'm just learning, and I don't really have any favorites because it's so early.
