Taylor talks visit, season, and more

It was supposed to be a big weekend in Durham with several Blue Devil commits on campus for their official visits. However with Duke making it to the ACC Championship game, several players will be moving their visits. We spoke with Chris Taylor about that and what this season has meant.

Having watched his future teammates defy expectations and win the division, Florida prospect and Duke commit Chris Taylor has enjoyed the season. The Blue Devils' success has been personally gratifying for him as well.

"It's been personal for me because everyone down here in South Florida has been asking me 'Why Duke?'. I've heard 'Duke sucks, go somewhere else' as well. This season goes to show that you cannot underestimate any team. These wins have silenced all the Duke doubters and all the people who questioned my decision."

Taylor, who committed to Duke back in May, is one of two commits from the South Florida area, joining quarterback Nico Pierre. The duo is looking to become a trio by working hard to recruit fellow Sunshine state standout Trevon Lee.

"I'm going to see him now that the seaosn's over. Regardless of what he decides, Nico and I are going to be getting together and throwing this offseason. We're going to be nasty when we get up there."

For the season Taylor help the University School to a second round playoff game before bowing out. He finsihed the season with 47 catches for 883 yards and 14 touchdowns.

"We ended up losing in the second round to the number one team in the nation. We ended up moving up a division this year and played the number three team in the country in week nine and then we played the number five team in week six. Nobody can say we didn't play the best."

Turning back to recruiting, Taylor says he'll visit either in January or on December 13th. In the interim he'll continue his conversations with Coach Derek Jones, who recruited Taylor throughout the process. Jones, who coaches the DBs, appears to have a friendly rivalry going with his star commit.

"I talk to Coach Montgomery around once a week, but I talk to Coach Jones more than anybody though. Maybe three or four times a week. All I do is talk crap to him about how I'm going to expose his DBs, haha."
