Commit Profile: Tinashe Bere

As the class of 2014 signs their national letters of intent, we run down each signee's recruiting process and look back at what it took for the Blue Devils to earn his commitment. Next up is Ohio linebacker Tinashe Bere.

Name: Tinashe Bere

School: Sycamore HS (Cincinnati, OH)

Ht/Wt/40: 6-foot-1 / 218lbs / 4.8

Projected Position: Center

Recruiting Recap: Bere, who has started at Cincinnati (Ohio) Sycamore since his freshman season, picked Duke over eight other offers including Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa and Purdue.

Quotable: "I thought of it this way," explained Bere. "My top schools going into my decision were Indiana, Iowa and Duke. I liked all the coaches and they all showed me a lot of love. But the deciding factor was education. A degree from Duke will take me far in life after football."

"I really liked how nice the campus was and the warm weather," said Bere. "The fact some of my high school coaches have a lot of contacts with the coaches at Duke also helped as I've heard nothing but great things about Coach (David) Cutcliffe."

"They see me playing the Mike or Will. After the game I got a chance to talk with the coaches, and they are just ready to get me in permanently so I can start working. My goal is to come in and work hard so that I can be a part of what I saw."

"The main thing they've told me is to just come in lean and ready to work hard, and the players told me the same thing. They talked to me about the differences in the college game and to really make sure I have my technique because size and strength will come with the Duke program. But you have to be sure on your technique."

Note: Bere was one of the top players in his District and in the state this year, leading his team to a 6-4 record by recording 83 tackles, four sacks, four forced fumbles, and one interception.

Projected 2014 Season Status: Bere will likely push toward the two-deep in Durham as a freshman, but absent injury to the front line upperclassmen, Duke will likely preserve his eligibility with a redshirt season.
