School: Coral Reef Senior HS (Miami, FL)
Ht/Wt/40: 6-foot-2 / 185lbs / 4.8
Projected Position: Quarterback
Recruiting Recap: Pierre, who is considered a three star prospect by Scout.com and the nation's No. 52 rated quarterback, chose Duke over offers from Appalachian State, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida International, Kansas State, Louisville, Mississippi State, Nebraska, South Florida, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin among others.
Quotable: "Beating Miami means a lot to me because Duke beat my home town team, and the team I grew up watching. It meant so much to me and the class of 2014 guys, and we know we have to keep it going next year."
"I think wins like the one over Miami are great for the program, and it helps show other players that Duke is for real. They see it now and understand."
"I know making the transition to college will be challenging…reading the defenses, making the right reads, and learning the timing is just a small part, I also have to learn the speed of the game and show leadership from the quarterback position. It's a lot, and it'll require me to be at my best all the time."
Self Evaluation: "I am a pass first quarterback and I will always look at my first two reads, then the third if I have time, and that is when I will look to run if that is not there. I want to throw the football, so I will do all I can to stay in the pocket and find a receiver. I am not that quarterback that is always looking to run." - Nico Pierre
"I do not try to play like any specific quarterback and I have not really heard too many comparisons yet, but I just do what I can do," he said. "I try to learn from as many quarterbacks as I can. I watch Cam Newton, Michael Vick, Aaron Rogers, and guys like that to see what I can learn, but I do not try to play like them. They did what they did to get where they are, so I am going to do what I can to go far too." - Nico Pierre
Expert Evaluation: Pierre has a big arm and the frame to carry 230+ pounds. If QB does not work out, he should be able to transition to LB at the next level. An excellent student, Pierre is very raw, but the upside is there for him to fit into spread type attacks. - Geoff Vogt
Projected 2014 Season Status: With Duke returning Anthony Boone and Brandon Connette along with backups Thomas Sirk and Parker Boehme, it's likely that both signal calling commitments are going to spend 2014 learning the offense and running scout teams as redshirts.
