Commit Profile: Alonzo Saxton

As the class of 2014 signs their national letters of intent, we run down each signee's recruiting process and look back at what it took for the Blue Devils to earn his commitment. Next up is Ohio linebacker Alonzo Saxton.

Name: Alonzo Saxton

School: Bishop Hartley HS (Columbus, OH)

Ht/Wt/40: 5-foot-11 / 175lbs / 4.6

Projected Position: Center

Recruiting Recap: Saxton chose Duke over offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Navy, Northwestern, Purdue, Toledo, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Quotable: "I had so many great offers, but Duke was just the best choice for me. When I visited there, I just got the best vibes and I could see myself there for the next four years. I talked to their great coaching staff a lot, and spent time with the players."

"It's a program on the rise for sure, and they accomplished a lot making a bowl game last season," he added. "I feel like there are great things happening there. I was there with my grandfather, and he loved it as well. He's a hard person to impress."

"My family values education so much, so this means even more to all of us,' he explained. "The academic reputation of Duke speaks for itself, and it sets me up to succeed in life, long after football is over."

Evaluation: Saxton possesses excellent size and combines that with above average speed and athleticism. He shows good range and is quick enough to make plays from out of position. Has a good initial burst, but lacks elite top-end speed.

Projected 2014 Season Status: Duke has showed a willingness for defensive backs to play very early in their career. However, with several young DBs coming off redshirts - including several who were projected to avoid a redshirt a year ago, it's unlikely that Saxton will see the field in 2014.
