Rice transfer will visit Duke

Duke will host former Rice big man Sean Obi next weekend as the Nigerian native looks for a new program to call home.

Sean Obi was among Conference USA's best big men a season ago. At 6-foot-9 and 265 pounds with soft hands and good rebounding instincts, Obi led C-USA in rebounding and ranked fourth in field goal percentage (59.1).

He added nine double-doubles and finished the season averaging 11.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

Those numbers were good enough to be named to the C-USA all-freshman team.

Currently Obi is on a visit to Vanderbilt, and will visit Duke next week. A decision is expected to be made following those visits.

NCAA rules would require Obi to sit out a season barring a waiver (unlikely), and should he choose Duke he would join a then fifth year senior, Marshall Plumlee as the only true center on the Duke roster. The Blue Devils are, however, thought to be in good position with 2015 five star big forward Chase Jeter.
