Big Ten Commit Hauls in USF Offer

A number of schools inside the Sunshine State have came across the highlight tape of Andrew James, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound electrifying wide receiver that's verbally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers. The latest program to covet the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Westminster Academy standout is the University of South Florida, who offered James a full-ride scholarship on Thursday afternoon.

Andrew James, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound elusive and playmaking wide receiver out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Westminster Academy, wasted no time issuing a verbal pledge to the Wisconsin Badgers when they offered him a scholarship offer two months ago.

Wisconsin wide receiver signee and nearby friend, George Rushing, passed along James' junior film to the Badgers' coaching staff and an offer was given out shortly after.

"I committed to them on March 11 and I was really excited about the offer and the program," James said. "(Wide receivers) coach (Chris) Beatty is a great coach. As of now, I really think that's the best place for me.

"We talk on a weekly basis, so we're frequently in contact. They've came to see me twice already this spring. I haven't been up there yet, but I'm going to try and make it up this summer. If not, I'm 100 percent making an official there."

James, who's also garnered scholarship offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Temple, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Bowling Green, received word from his coach on Thursday afternoon that an additional in-state program decided to join the fray and pursue the offensive weapon.

"Just South Florida offered me today," James said. "My coach came into the office and he told me today that I had an offer from USF. They're a young program and they're on the rise. They produce good receivers and NFL players. It's a great program."

There's another program out of the American Athletic Conference that's done a great job building a tight-knit relationship with the three-star wide receiver early on in the recruiting process. In fact, expect James to use one of his five official visits to get a taste of their campus.

"Another visit I'll definitely take is Temple," James said. "I'm really cool with the coaching staff there. I'm definitely going to (Miami's) camp for 100 percent. The camp is on June 1."

The explosive Broward County athlete reports an impressive 4.33 in the 40-yard dash, as well as a max of 235 pounds in the bench and 315 pounds in the squat.

In his junior campaign, James hauled in 29 receptions for 685 yards and eight touchdowns for the 8-2 Lions.
