Keith Washington picks Duke

The Blue Devils picked up a 15th commitment in the class of 2015 when Prattville (AL) High standout Keith Washington verbally committed on Thursday afternoon. We spoke with Washington about the decision soon after it was official.

"I picked Duke because I wanted to be part of a great rising program while getting an education that is second to none," said Prattville (AL) High defensive back Keith Washington.

Measuring 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, Washington projects as a defensive back with good size and speed (4.38 forty time). He picked Duke over offers from North Carolina, Miami, Duke, Missouri, Northwestern, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas State, Memphis, Wake Forest, Rice and several others.

He plays quarterback for his high school team, but was recruited to Duke as an athlete by Coach Derek Jones. He will end up at cornerback and made the decision to become a Blue Devils after a recent visit.

"I was recruited by Coach Jones and visited campus on June 14th. It is just a beautiful place, and when you consider that I have a chance to get a great job if football doesn't work out because it's Duke."

Education certainly worked in Duke's favor, but it was the on the field performance that really turned the trick in this commitment.

"Seeing what they did last year really did open my eyes about Duke. After that I started to think about the program differently."

As a junior in 2013, Washington threw for 875 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions on 79-of-162 passing, while racking up 568 yards and four touchdowns on the ground in 2013.
