Duke ranked third in first coaches' poll

Duke will open the season ranked third in the USA Today Coaches Poll which was released on Thursday.

The Blue Devils will begin the 2014-2015 season ranked third in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, released on Thursday afternoon. Duke received 715 total points including three first place votes from the panel of 32 division one head coaches.

Kentucky is ranked No. 1 in the poll, receiving 24 first place votes and 785 points. Arizona is second with 746 points and three first place votes.

Other ACC programs ranked in the top 25 include North Carolina (6), Virginia (8), Louisville (9), and Syracuse (24). Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Florida State, and Miami were among the teams also receiving votes.

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski's team will play a tough schedule over the next several months with two games against North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Syracuse. Duke will also travel to Virginia, Florida State, and Louisville for road games, but will not host the Cavaliers, Seminoles, or Cardinals thanks to the unbalanced ACC schedule. Pittsburgh and Miami will travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium in January in the lone matchup between the teams.

In the non-conference schedule, Duke will play a road game at No. 4 Wisconsin and neutral site games against No. 18 Michigan State in Indianapolis and No. 15 Connecticut in East Rutherford, N.J. The Blue Devils and Stanford could face off in the finals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y. in late November.

All told the Blue Devils have assembled a challenging slate that includes nine ranked opponents and five top 10 opponents.
