Meet the NEW Devils: Reno Rosene

Big California offensive lineman was one of two early enrollees for Duke this January. Here's what you need to know about the three star prospect.

Reno Rosene
Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian
No. 7 OG in California, three stars
Committed on June 5, 2014

Vitals: 6-foot-7, 340 pounds

Rosene’s Recruitment: The three star prospect chose the Blue Devils over offers from Washington State, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Arizona State, and others. And while the West Coast schools thought they could make headway, it was a trip to Durham in April that really made the difference.

"My dad and I went out there in April and had a chance to sit down with Coach Cutcliffe and Coach Latina. I sat and talked with Coach Latina for over an hour about the offense, the team, and the different schemes. After that I just felt like this guy is destined to be my coach."

Rosene wont be the first player from Oaks to go to Duke. Blair Holliday went there in the class of 2011.

Early Impact: Rosene will benefit tremendously from the Duke strength and conditioning program over the next 18 months. He will head into Spring practice ready to learn each of the five positions before ultimately be slotted as either a guard or tackle for 2016 Spring Practice after redshirting in 2015.

"I am going to play tackle, but the way it works at Duke, you have to learn the other positions. You have to know how to play guard and center. You may not play those positions, but you have to know them inside and out so that you know where everyone is going to be on any given play."

Scout Take: Rosene is a massive tackle with a solid frame. The next step in his development will be refining his technique in pass protection and improving on finishing his blocks on the run. Will benefit tremendously from a college weight and conditioning program - especially the one in Durham. After a couple of seasons prepping, he projects as a rotational player and eventual starter at right tackle for Coach Cutcliffe’s program.
