The Blue Devils will begin pursuit of the program's fifth national title by facing either Robert Morris or North Florida.
Going by the Pomeroy rankings, the Blue Devils have several potential stumbling blocks within the first few potential games.
Assuming Duke doesn’t make history as the only No. 1 seed to fall to a 16, the Blue Devils would face either No. 27 San Diego State or No. 42 St. John’s in the second round. The Red Storm have lost their starting center Chris Obekpa for two weeks after he violated undisclosed team rules, so it could wind up being a reunion of Coach K and Steve Fisher in the second round - the two coaches met in the 1992 National Championship game when Fisher coached the infamous “Fab Five”.
The Sweet 16 should feature either No. 8 Utah or No. 22 Georgetown.
The bottom half of Duke’s bracket features three top 20 teams according to Pomeroy including No. 6 Gonzaga, No. 13 Iowa State, and No. 19 SMU.
The program’s official media wing, DukeBluePlanet, provided a number of good looks at the bracket and the team’s reaction to the selection process.
