Before the season started, the press ranked Duke as the fourth-best team in the country. By the end of the season, after a 29-4 campaign, the press ranked Duke as the fourth-best team in the country.
In a vacuum, that’s a very impressive number. But Duke, led by Jahlil Okafor (the most dominant player in the country) and Justise Winslow (the most dominant wing in the country), has never looked like the fourth-best team in the country. Sure, they lost a few early conference games while their freshmen learned to catch up with the speed of the game, but since their four point loss to Notre Dame the Blue Devils have gone 16-1, boasting wins over Virginia, Notre Dame, and now Gonzaga and Utah.
They’ll be the heavy favorites going into the Final Four matchup against Tom Izzo’s Michigan State, but this isn’t even about that. This Duke team doesn’t look just like a Final Four team, or a team that gets the honor of getting blown out by Kentucky in the National Championship – they look like a team that can win it all. They’ve already taken down Wisconsin this season. Be there when they beat the Wildcats too.
