Duke and Utah Rematch In December

In a rematch of the 2015 Sweet 16 game, the Duke Blue Devils and Utah Running Utes will face off on December 19th in Madison Square Garden in a nationally televised game.

“This is an opportunity to play one of the elite programs in college basketball in one of the most recognizable basketball venues in the country. We think it will be a terrific opportunity and test before we start conference play less than two weeks later,” said Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak, whose Utes were edged 63-57 by the Blue Devils in the NCAA South Regional semifinal in Houston on Mar. 27. “This will be a marquee preseason game and the national exposure for our program will be invaluable.”

Duke will have to deal with Utah big man Jakob Poeltl, a seven footer who is shooting up draft boards for the 2016 NBA Draft. In last season’s matchup the native of Austria scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds against the Blue Devils.

Meanwhile, Utah will have an entirely new scouting report to study as Duke returns returns just one starter from last year’s team. The returning Blue Devils accounted for just seven points and five rebounds against the Utes a season ago.

Replacing the lost stars will be the nation’s top recruiting class consisting of Derryck Thornton, Brandon Ingram, Chase Jeter, Luke Kennard, and Antonio Vrankovic.

Other confirmed games for Duke at this time include a game against Utah State on November 29th, against Indiana on December 2nd as part of the ACC/B1G Challenge, the 2K Classic against VCU and either Wisconsin or Georgetown.
