The Blue Devils jumped in with an offer after Reed visited Durham in order to kick in front of the Duke coaching staff live.
“I went to their camp this morning so they could see my kick in person, and they were very impressed,” Reed told TDD on Monday night. “My dad and I were then invited up to Coach Cutcliffe's office to talk to him. He told me he thinks I am a perfect fit for Duke and he's going to offer me a scholarship.”
During that meeting with Cutcliffe, Reed says the Duke head coach had a specific goal in mind.
“He said he wants me to come in and start for four years and help Duke get a National Championship. I was blown away and very impressed by their offer. I told them I was going to go home and talk to my family and visit one more school before I made my decision. I told them Duke is my number one and I will be making my decision by the end of the week.”
If it seems that Duke is in a good spot, it’s because the Blue Devils are. And it’s because of the complete package and combination of academics and athletics according to Reed.
“I’m very impressed by what they are doing at Duke. The coaches have that program going in the right direction, and I believe they will continue to have success. They are talking about their recent success. He told me he is very proud of what they've done there bc they are winning and they are winning the right way.”
“I really like Duke; and they are at the top of my list right now. I talk to Coach Roper, the special teams coordinator, the most and I've met Coach Cutcliffe, the head coach, twice now. They are both outstanding coaches and I would love to play for them. I have visited twice. “
