Blue Devils Land Their Kicker

A.J. Reed committed to Duke on Saturday afternoon , becoming the 12th member of the class of 2016.

"I just committed to Duke," A.J. Reed told TDD on Saturday afternoon. "I called coach Cutcliffe and let him know I was ready to Commit to being a Blue Devil. He was very excited and so was I. I'm blessed to have this great opportunity to play for such a good football team and get such a great education."

Reed visited Duke last week for an unofficial visit and left Durham pretty sure he was going to commit. But he first needed to return home and speak with his family. After that process was done, he called the coaches on Saturday and made things official.

He selects Duke over an offer from South Florida and interest from Mississippi State, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia Tech.

The commitment and interest in Duke began with his relationship with his recruiting coach, Zac Roper.

"I talk to Coach Roper, the special teams coordinator, the most and I've met Coach Cutcliffe, the head coach, twice now. They are both outstanding coaches."

Reed becomes the 12th member of the Duke recruiting class, ranked among the top 15 in the country. He is set to be evaluated by the national recruiting team for positional rankings. He is considered the 6th best kicker in the country according to Kohl's Kicking Camps.
