FB Forecast: OT Casey Blaser

Our player by player preview of the 2015 Duke Blue Devils football program continues with a look at a returning starter at right tackle. With the ground attack being a priority this coming season, Casey Blaser will certainly be called upon to continue his steady and durable performances in the trenches.

2014 Review
Blaser returns as a fourth year junior who started all 13 games at right tackle a season ago. He proved incredibly durable by not only starting every game, but also playing 885 snaps after logging just 17 snaps as a redshirt freshman while also battling a hand injury.

2015 Preview
Blaser’s experience will be counted on as he joins G Lucas Patrick and C Matt Skura as returning starters in the trenches for a Blue Devil team that will be built for success in the running game. Blaser will be lining up alongside either Cody Robinson or Tanner Stone at right guard, and while both have experience, neither is on the departed Laken Tomlinson’s level.

TDD Projection
The Duke offensive line - once a weakness of the program - has become, arguably, the most stable portion of the program under the Cutcliffe regime. After battling injury early in his career, Blaser has been a rock at right tackle over the last 13 games, and will likely be called upon to play as many snaps as possible this coming season. He’s considered a preseason fringe all-conference selection and with Duke’ increased emphasis on the run game and quick decisions from the quarterback, it’s possible Blaser could solidify himself on the post season lists.

How he ended up in Durham
Blaser picked Duke over offers from Ball State, East Carolina, and Marshall along with interest from Georgia Tech, North Carolina, NC State, and South Carolina.
