There may not have been a better player on the Blue Devil roster last year including both NFL draftees Laken Tomlinson and Jamison Crowder. He earned second team All-America honors - the second straight season he’d earned post season All-America nods - the first time the program had a player accomplish that feat in more than 40 years.
Duke fans should probably feel lucky that Cash returned to Durham for the 2015 season as NFL scouts were and are keenly aware of his ability to factor into the passing game, run stopping and support, and pretty much every other area of the game for the Blue Devil defense. Cash will once again be the best player on the field for Duke each time he suits up. And with the inexperience in front of him both on the line and at linebacker, you’ll likely see Cash lining up all over the field in hopes of producing big plays.
We expect Cash to, at worst, finish in the top three on the team in total tackles and, likely, tackles for loss. He’ll also make a number of big time plays along with Devon Edwards that could be the difference between a fourth straight bowl game or a post season at home for the first time in several years. So long as he’s healthy, we’d expect Cash to push his draft stock in April up to around the second round. Along the way he’ll likely pick up some all-conference honors and be in the discussion for several individual post season awards.
How he ended up in Durham
Cash transferred from Ohio State to Duke in January of 2012. A three-star recruit out of Plantation (FLA) High School, he originally chose the Buckeyes over offers from Florida State, LSU, Miami, South Florida, and Central Florida.
