Harris was a three star prospect out of the Taft school and was rated as the No. 7 signal caller in the East Region by Scout.com.
With the injury to Jela Duncan and the re-positioning of Nico Pierre to running back, Harris has already been promoted at least one position on the depth chart - now sitting either third or fourth depending on where you see Daniel Jones factoring in. Either way, it’s unlikely that either true freshman signal caller sees any significant time in 2015 barring injury.
Thomas Sirk has a two year window as the starter before turning over the reigns. And therein lies the battle that Harris will fight along with Jones and current backup Parker Boehme.
How he ended up in Durham
The Harris recruitment came down to Duke and Boston College with the Blue Devils winning in May.
"I just loved the campus environment when I went down to see the UNC basketball game, and I loved coach (David) Cutcliffe and (assistant) coach (Scottie) Montgomery," Harris told Scout.com. "I think I can really grow as a quarterback under them.
"Then, also how prestigious the academics are at Duke, it fit on all facets for me. It's a very similar community to Taft and I loved that also about duke."
Harris also had offers from Connecticut and Yale.
