6-foot-5 / 260 pounds
Ellicott City (MD) / McDonogh
After missing 2012 while recovering from shoulder surgery and then not appearing in any games for the duration of the 2013 season, Jackson saw mop up minutes in 2014 against Tulane, Elon, and Kansas - accumulating 39 snaps and three tackles during those limited minutes.
Entering his fourth year in the program, Jackson has been elevated to the top reserve at defensive end behind Britton Grier on the right side when he’ll use his range and speed to hopefully help the Blue Devils generate pressure from the outside of the line while also sealing up holes against the run game.
Both Grier and Jackson have the experience, but the best pure talent on the right side of the defensive line could be true freshman Marquies Price who, at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, has the size to play this season. That may very well be the plan as Price enrolled in January and is listed as the third string option in the preseason. Still, both Grier and Jackson have the inside track and the pre-camp plan was for them to split the majority of the mintues.
How he ended up in Durham
Jackson chose Duke over offers from West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, and Maryland in March of 2011. The Blue Devils were the first program to offer the three-star prospect. Following a visit to Durham shortly before his commitment, Jackson said Duke felt right.
"It was a lot like my high school in terms of size and feel, which is good because I love my high school. Duke seems like it could be a great place to be, and getting a Duke degree means a lot in the real world. I'd pretty much be set for life if that happened. I really liked everything about my time there."
