FB Forecast: TE Davis Koppenhaver

Reserve tight end could be allowed a second chance at a first year schedule in 2015.

Davis Koppenhaver

6-foot-4 / 220 pounds

High School:
Valencia (CA) / Hart

2014 Review
With the loss of Braxton Deaver in the preseason, Koppenhaver was called into action as a true freshman, playing against Elon, Tulane, and Kansas - all big Duke wins. He was on the field for 30 snaps and recorded one catch. *****

2015 Preview
Following the appearances in the three early season blowouts, Koppenhaver disappeared for the rest of the season. He then underwent shoulder surgery in March and is entering camp as the fourth string tight end. *****

TDD Projection
The loss of Deaver seemed to pull the California prospect into the fire before he was ready. A season later and Deaver is somewhat unexpectedly back, which could afford Koppenhaver a chance to undergo the redshirt season he game up a season ago. It would allow the player to retain three years of eligibility and to enter next season as a prohibitive favorite to back up Tennessee transfer Daniel Helm.

How he ended up in Durham
After indicating that he was needed to visit Duke to see the game day atmosphere, three star tight end prospect Davis Koppenhaver made things official on September 14th.

Koppenhaver selected the Blue Devils over offers from Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, UNLV, Iowa State, Colgate, and Yale.

"For starters, academics have always been one of my main priorities, and I also really liked the coaches when I met them in July. It was just the right place for me."
