High School:
San Antonio (TX) / Ronald Reagan

Redshirt Sophomore

2014 Review
Following his redshirt season in 2013, one punctuated by receipt of the Sonny Falcone Iron Duke Award which is presented annually to one offensive player, one defensive player and one player in the developmental program for their year-round commitment to strength training and conditioning, Korona appeared in five games a redshirt freshman. He totaled 62 snaps in games against Elon, Tulane, Syracuse, and North Carolina.

2015 Preview
His work load will likely increase as a third year sophomore as Korona has a firm lock on the second straight left tackle spot. As one of the tallest players on the roster, he’s spent two years working hard to add weight and strength while maintaining flexibility and quickness. The result is a player capable of stepping in at a moment’s notice.

TDD Projection
Korona and Gabe Brandner have battled throughout the Spring and into the preseason camp for the nod at left tackle. So far Brandner has the edge, but it’s not by enough of a margin that Korona couldn’t push into starting group. Whether that happens or not, it’s a safe bet that the Texas prospect will grab more work this season than he did last season and will continue to battle with Brandner for the starting nod on a week to week basis.

How he ended up in Durham
Korona picked Duke in June of 2012 after a visit to Durham. He turned down offers from Houston, SMU, Tulsa, UTEP, and Washington State.

"Everything fell into place," Korona said at the time. "Most importantly I was their first choice and I want to be somewhere that I can make a difference instead of being a third or fourth choice where I'm not needed."
