FB Forecast: DE Marquies Price

The 2015 Duke Football player by player preview continues with freshman defensive end Marquies Price who could battle for playing time as a true freshman.

Marquies Price

6-foot-6 / 240 pounds

High School:

Fort Valley (GA) / Peach County

2014 Review:

Price completed his senior season at Peach County High and then graduated in December before enrolling at Duke in January of 2015.

2015 Preview:

The decision to enroll early afforded Price the chance to participate in Spring Practice and to work with the Duke strength and conditioning coaches.  He began the preseason listed as the third string defensive end on the right side of the line.

TDD Projection

With prototypical size and length, and a good motor as well, Price has worked throughout camp for a chance to play as a freshman.  Right now it would hardly be a surprise if he successfully avoided a redshirt and provided depth along the defensive front.  He’s added 15 pounds since January and as one source put it, “has done everything right since arriving on campus”.

How he ended up in Durham

Early on it was South Florida making a big push for Price with the Bulls jumping in with the first offer. Price developed a relationship with defensive line coach Eric Mathies, but USF couldn’t capitalize on an early attempt to close the deal. From there Price picked up offers from Duke, Central Florida, Virginia, Cincinnati, and Kentucky. That last offer from the Wildcats actually surprised him since “I wasn't talking to Kentucky at all."

By early May Price had visited Duke and was openly declaring the Blue Devils as his leader. Then, during the second week of June, Price announced his commitment via Twitter.
