Redshirt Freshman

2014 Review

Taylor enrolled at Duke in June and pushed his way into consideration to play as a true freshman, but ultimately redshirted.

2015 Preview

Taylor had a very strong redshirt season and performance in spring ball.  It resulted in being named as the starter on the outside heading into camp.  However, midway through the camp the Duke coaches had mentioned that some of the younger players - including Taylor and Trevon Lee - were struggling with consistency at times.

TDD Projection

Duke moved freshman T.J. Rahming up in the rotation throughout camp and converted Keyston Fuller to wide receiver as well.  That points to a need at the position, which suggests that consistency from players such as Lee, Taylor, and Barnes could still be an issue.  With a new quarterback being worked into the system, it’s important for the receivers to be sure-handed and reliable.  For Taylor to regain and/or maintain his preseason spot…he’ll need to become more consistent.

How he ended up in Durham

Taylor chose the Blue Devils over offers from Appalachian St,Eastern Michigan, Fordham, Holy Cross, Marshall, UMass, Ohio, and Western Michigan. He was also fielding calls from schools such as Auburn, Fla Atlantic, Fla International, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, and Tulane.

"I called Coach Montgomery, my recruiting coach, this morning around 7 AM to tell him I was committing," said Chris Taylor. "He was ecstatic, and told me he was going to let the staff know…shortly thereafter, the coaches were contacting me via Facebook and text to say how excited they all were."

"I had visited Duke last year when they played Miami, but as far as recruiting goes, there really wasn't a very extended period. I actually received the offer from them last week, and I had honestly been thinking about it. Of course, I didn't want to be too hasty."
