A look back at the Blue Devils' big win over in-town opponent, NC Central.


Offensive Player of the Game

QB Thomas Sirk: 15-of-22, 315 yards, 3 TDs; 9 attempts for 86 yards, 1 TD 

Sirk did more than just pass against the Eagles of NCCU.  He was Duke’s leading rusher with 9 rushes for 89 yards and a touchdown.  His longest run gained 28 yards.  Sirk was efficient throwing the ball connecting on 15 of 22 passes for 315 yards.  He threw three touchdowns to running backs Shaquille Powell (24 yards) and Shaun Wilson (89 yards) and to Senior WR Max McCaffrey (43 yards)

Honorable Mention 

RB Shaun Wilson had 17 rushes for 57 yards and a touchdown and 3 receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Defensive Player of the Game

S - Jeremy Cash

Cash led all Duke defenders with 6 tackles for the game with 5 being solo.  He combined with A. J. Wolf on a sack on QB Bell for NCCU for a 5 yard loss.  

Honorable Mention

DT - Brandon Boyce

Boyce was credited for 4 total tackles, 3 being assisted, including a shared tackle for loss of 3 yards.

CB - Alonzo Saxton II

Saxton also had 4 tackles, 3 being solo.  With Duke scoring so much, he had many opportunities to make tackles on kickoffs.  His hits on returners drew many “oohs” from the crowd.

Play of the Game

Shaun Wilson’s 89 yard TD reception in the 3rd Quarter from Thomas Sirk.   It was a simple screen pass that sophomore tailback turned into the biggest play of the season to date.

Next Week 

The Duke Blue Devils host the Wildcats of Northwestern out of the BIG TEN Conference.  Both teams enter the contest undefeated as Duke has wins over Tulane and North Carolina Central University while Northwestern has a wins over the Stanford Cardinal and Eastern Illinois.  The game is set for 12:30 pm kickoff.
