DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman forward Brandon Ingram was named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday for his efforts’ in the Blue Devils’ wins over Indiana and Buffalo last week. The recognition marked the first weekly conference honor of Ingram’s career.
Ingram led Duke in points (23.5), blocks (2.0) and steals (1.5) per game as Duke routed Indiana in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Wednesday and defeated Buffalo on Saturday. He also averaged 7.0 rebounds per game and shot 60.0 percent from the floor, 60.0 percent from beyond the three-point line and 71.4 percent from the free throw line on the week.
The Kinston, N.C., native opened the week with the best performance of his young career, knocking down 10-of-15 shots from the floor, including 4-of-6 from long distance, en route to a game and career-high 24 points in Duke’s 94-74 dispatching of Indiana. He collected four offensive rebounds among his total of six boards against the Hoosiers, and also added two assists.
Ingram didn’t miss a beat in Duke’s victory over Buffalo on Saturday, scoring a game-high 23 points and setting career bests with eight rebounds and four blocks. He was 8-of-15 from the floor while playing a career-high 38 minutes against UB.
For the season, Ingram shares the team lead in steals with an average of 1.2 per game, while ranking second on the team in points (13.7) and blocks (1.3) per contest. He has eclipsed the 20-point mark three times and is shooting 45.4 percent from the field.
The award was Duke’s second weekly honor of the season, as Grayson Allen was named ACC Player of the Week on Nov. 16.
