Terrell Lucas has more than a dozen FBS offers with schools such as Minnesota Nebraska, Tennessee, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Michigan, and Oregon State among others. Still, he’s named Duke as the strongest program in his recruitment for quite a while.
And now he’s ready to move forward and make an official visit to Durham. That’ll happen this weekend when the 6-foot-3, 229 pound defensive lineman travels to Duke to be hosted by redshirt freshman Edgar Cerenord. For Lucas, it’s a chance to confirm some early thoughts on the Blue Devils, but not answer many questions.
“I speak with Coach Jones and Coach Montgomery the most,” said Lucas. “On this visit I don’t really have a lot of questions with Duke, but I just want to see everything on my own.”
Lucas, who plans to major in computer science, named the Blue Devils as his leader last month while setting up official visits to Tennessee and Nebraska. At that point he cited his relationship with Jones and Montgomery as key factors in his recruitment thus far.
"With Duke, I have the best relationship with them. The coaches and I speak about two or three times a week, and that's the one I'm most interested in."
After speaking with the coaches a few times per week, Lucas says he’s been impressed with Duke’s defensive strength over the last year, particularly the strength of the defensive backfield. He believes he could bring some help to those players by providing a presence up front.
“My strengths are my athleticism and my overall natural ability. I think my strength and my speed will translate to college game early on. Also, I think I have to work on getting even faster and my change if direction.”
Lucas says he hopes to make a college decision shortly after the new year.
