Terrell Lucas told us last week that he didn’t need to answer any questions this weekend at Duke. His official visit was just a chance to see things in person.
48 hours later and the three star prospect out of Florida has seen enough to call it a recruitment. He committed to Duke on Sunday morning as his official visit wound up.
Lucas had offers from more than a dozen FBS offers with schools such as Minnesota Nebraska, Tennessee, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Michigan, and Oregon State among others.
Still, he named Duke as the leader in his recruitment for quite a while and credits the Blue Devil coaches as developing the strongest relationship.
“I speak with Coach Jones and Coach Montgomery the most,” said Lucas.
Lucas, who wants to major in computer science, will be hosted by current defensive lineman Edgar Cerenord and is being recruited by Coach Derek Jones.
"With Duke, I have the best relationship with them. The coaches and I speak about two or three times a week, and that's the one I'm most interested in."
After speaking with the coaches a few times per week, Lucas says he’s been impressed with Duke’s defensive strength over the last year, particularly the strength of the defensive backfield. He believes he could bring some help to those players by providing a presence up front.
“My strengths are my athleticism and my overall natural ability. I think my strength and my speed will translate to college game early on. Also, I think I have to work on getting even faster and my change if direction.”
