Meet The New Devils '16 -TE Jacob Morgenstern

Get to know the newest Blue Devils as we go player-by-player in the recruiting class of 2016 with analysis, projections, videos, and more.

Recruiting Recap: Morgenstern visited Duke on June 19th. Less than a week later the three star tight end prospect decided that the Blue Devil program would be his choice.

Morgenstern picked Duke over more than 20 verbal offers including ones from Boston College, Uconn, Clemson, Duke, Illinois, Pitt, Mississippi State, Syracuse, UVA, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and others.

Projected Position: Tight End

2016 Projection: Morgenstern spent the last three seasons playing wide receiver for New Canaan (CT) St. Luke’s. However, he projects to move to tight end at the collegiate level. That means he’ll need to spend a year or so focusing on adding weight and strength.

The three star prospect enters Signing Day measuring out at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. He’ll most likely step on to the college field in 2017 or beyond with an additional 25 to 30 pounds on his frame. That’ll take time, which means he’ll spend 2016 on the roster as a redshirt.

Quotable: “He has good hands and runs nice routes. He can get down the field, and he is physical after the catch. He will have to get stronger to thrive as a blocker in the running game, but he has the frame to add 30 pounds to do it." - Brian Dohn, recruiting analyst.
