Meet The New Devils 16 - OLB Alexander Gagnon

Get to know the newest Blue Devils as we go player-by-player in the recruiting class of 2016 with analysis, projections, videos, and more.

Recruiting Recap: A three star outside linebacker who was one of the best defensive players in the state of North Carolina, Gagnon picked Duke on June 25th after visiting campus.

The Blue Devils beat out an impressive offer sheet that included North Carolina, NC State, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia among others.

Gagnon had participated in Duke’s first camp of the summer in early June, and earned an offer based on that performance.

Projected Position: Weakside Linebacker

2016 Projection: Most likely Duke’s depth and wealth of young players who saw time in 2015 will allow Gagnon to push the rotation, but will also give the in-state prospect the chance to redshirt in 2016. That’s not to say there isn’t availability in the two-deep, but at this point it’s likely Gagnon will be redshirting.

Quotable: “The coaching staff is great, it's a great program and our recruiting class is one of the best in the country. I’ll also be able to stay close to home and the future looks bright.” ”I have a great relationship with (cornerbacks) coach (Derek) Jones, who recruited me,” Gagnon said. “He let me have my space and make my decision. And he was honest with me the entire time.”
