Meet The New Devils 2016 - OT Liam Smith

Get to know the newest Blue Devils as we go player-by-player in the recruiting class of 2016 with analysis, projections, videos, and more.

Recruiting Recap: Smith had visited Duke in March unofficially and came away impressed on that trip. Four weeks later he made the decision to commit to the Blue Devils.

Smith ended his recruitment on April 13th by announcing he had committed to Duke. He had Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia as other finalists.

“Coach Cut is awesome,” Smith said at the time. “He’s kind of like a football guy, always. He always knows what he’s talking about. He’s really smart. He helps me out with a lot of stuff when we’re talking.

Projected Position: Offensive Tackle

2016 Projection: Duke makes a habit of redshirting their offensive linemen and will do the same with Smith. Smith will continue to add weight and strength, but is athletic enough to factor into the line rotation in a year or so - which you’d expect out of a four star prospect. During his year off, Smith will likely work on improving his pass protection.

Quotable: “We want to move Duke to the next level and take nine-win seasons into 10- and 11-win seasons and compete for national championships. For me, academically and football-wise, it was a great match.”
