Meet The New Devils 2016 - A.J. Reed

Get to know the newest Blue Devils as we go player-by-player in the recruiting class of 2016 with analysis, projections, videos, and more.

Recruiting Recap: Reed visited Duke during the first week of June and then returned home to discuss the visit with his family. A week later and he committed to Duke.

He selected Duke over an offer from South Florida and interest from Mississippi State, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia Tech. Duke jumped in after the workout in Durham.

“I went to their camp this morning so they could see my kick in person, and they were very impressed,” Reed told TDD. “My dad and I were then invited up to Coach Cutcliffe's office to talk to him. He told me he thinks I am a perfect fit for Duke and he's going to offer me a scholarship.”

Reed was the 12th member of the Duke recruiting class, ranked among the top 15 in the country.

Projected Position: Kicker

2016 Projection: It’s easier to let Reed tell the tale of the recruiting pitch and the likely projection of his 2016 season as he told TDD following a meeting with Coach Cutcliffe.

“He said he wants me to come in and start for four years and help Duke get a National Championship. I was blown away and very impressed by their offer.”

Quotable: “I’m very impressed by what they are doing at Duke. The coaches have that program going in the right direction, and I believe they will continue to have success. They are talking about their recent success. He told me he is very proud of what they've done there bc they are winning and they are winning the right way.”
