Duke Football Hosted Several Top Juniors On Saturday

The Blue Devils hosted several prospects for the program’s first junior day event of the 2017 recruiting season. Here’s who we’ve confirmed was in attendance for Duke this weekend.

JUST COMMITTED

Florida speedster Damond Johnson became the first member of the class of 2017 to commit to the Blue Devils. The 6-foot-1, 170 pound wide receiver announced his decision via Twitter at halftime of the basketball game against NC State.

IN THE HOUSE / CONFIRMED VISITORS

This in-state safety prospect has offers from ECU, Virginia, Appalachian State and Charlotte. NC State, North Carolina, Clemson and Virginia Tech are also in the running early on.

New Jersey defensive tackle Dalyn Wade-Perry has a number of high majors pursuing him early on. Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, and UCLA are among the players in this recruitment early on.

Neal is a hard-hitting safety who does some of his best work in the box. The 6-foot, 185-pounder can thump; he’s not a head hunter, per se, but once Neal gets ahold of you, he typically finishes the play. A sound form tackler who gets low, drives from his base and wraps up, Neal allows little to no leaky yardage. Teams involved early on with Neal include Maryland, Penn State, Stanford, Virginia, and Syracuse.

A former schoolmate of top Blue Devil commit Scott Bracey, Brooks had a ton of schools in on him early. The Benedictine inside linebacker holds scholarship offers from Duke, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and Charlotte. Notre Dame, Indiana, Pittsburgh, California, Rutgers and Louisville are also showing interest. He visited Duke in December unofficially, and was back on Saturday.

This Illinois lineman is one of the best offensive tackles in the state. He has offers from the home-state Fighting Illini as well as interest from Michigan State, Indiana, and Purdue.

The Blue Devils got a handful of strong defensive ends in 2016 and look to continue that in 2017 as well. At 6’6 and 230 pounds, Allen has high majors in pursuit including Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State, North Carolina, Tennessee, and others. All have reportedly offered. Next up will be a trip to South Carolina.

Inside linebacker has already attained four star status from Scout.com. Duke was among the first to offer and the Blue Devils have maintained early contact. Other offers include Clemson, South Carolina, and Wake Forest. He’s a top 300 member for 2017.

Another high major prospect in attendance was D’Marco Jackson. At 6’1 and 190 pounds, Jackson projects as a safety at the next level though he could also play outside linebacker - where Duke sees him (either position).

Three star athlete Malik Williams projects as a defensive back for the Blue Devils.

OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE

Duke also hosted in-state defensive end Bryden Reed out of Charlotte Christian in North Carolina. The other junior to make the trip was Bryce Singleton - a wide receiver out of Hilton Head, SC.
