Duke Visit A Good First Step For Florida TE

Florida tight end Aaron Hackett has picked up early interest and offers from a number of schools from the Big East, Big 12, and ACC. Last week he visited Duke unofficially, and the Blue Devils made an early impression.

Three star Venice (Fla.) High tight end Aaron Hackett began picking up high major interest after a junior season in which he recorded 27 catches for 328 yards and five touchdowns for his team.

Schools such as Wake Forest, Iowa State, Connecticut, and Toledo all jumped in with offers, and others such as Duke, Florida, Tennessee, and Miami have also expressed early interest.   The Blue Devils’ interest is somewhat recent it appears.

“I have been recruited by Duke for a couple of months by Coach Guerrieri, the safeties coach.”

Last week the efforts of the Blue Devil coaches resulted in Hackett making the trip up I-95 for the program’s second junior day of the season.

“I really enjoyed seeing the campus and the game at Cameron Indoor when I went.  I also enjoyed speaking with the coaching staff.”

Currently Duke hasn’t extended an offer, but that could be on the horizon as the two sides learn more about each other.  In the interim, Hackett says he’ll continue to work on his game which he describes as:

“I think I do a great job run blocking and catching the ball as a tight end, but I am starting to become more versatile and have lined up at different spots on the field.”

Next up for Hackett will be a few more visits and then the summer camp circuit.

“This Spring I am going to take a couple more visits.  Right now all I have planned is Florida Atlantic and Connecticut.  I will also likely visit Tennessee.”
