Duke Holds Off Wake Forest, 79-71

Playing a third game in six days, short-handed Duke overcame a cold shooting night and a very game Wake Forest team to earn an 11th ACC victory on the year, beating the Demon Deacons 79-71 on Tuesday.

Grayson Allen scored 30 points while Marshall Plumlee and Brandon Ingram both recorded double-doubles as Duke beat Wake Forest by eight on Tuesday night in Cameron.   It was the fourth time this season that Allen has topped the 30 point plateau.

For his part, Plumlee scored 13 points and tied his career high with 17 rebounds while Ingram went for 15 points and 11 boards to help Duke improve to 22-8 overall on the season and 11-6 in the ACC.

In winning their 17th straight game over the Deacons in Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Blue Devils had to overcome a cold shooting start.  Duke hit just 10-of-35 from the field in the first half and three of 10 from long range, but forced 13 Wake Forest turnovers before halftime which resulted in 15 points as Duke took a one point advantage into the break.

Wake Forest took the lead early in the second half and the two teams were locked in a one-possession game for the next 11 minutes before Duke was able to build a working margin.

The Deacons were led by Devin Thomas’ 16 points and 13 rebounds along with Codi Miller-McIntyre who added 13 points.

Duke will conclude their ACC regular season schedule this weekend when they host rival North Carolina on Saturday.
