After a first half full of offensive fireworks, Duke managed to rally with a mid-second half run and then held on against NC State, 92-89 in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
Freshman Brandon Ingram scored 22 points - 19 in the first half - while classmate Luke Kennard also had 22 as Duke beat North Carolina State by three on Saturday afternoon in Washington. Grayson Allen added 19 points and six assists for Duke which improved to 23-9 on the season.
Next up will be a rematch against defending ACC Champion, Notre Dame on Saturday at 2:30. The Irish defeated Duke 95-91 in Durham in the only meeting between the two programs this season.
It’ll certainly be another tall order for a Duke team without any real depth to play at a similarly high level after shooting better than 60 percent for most of the game in a contest that was fast paced and short on defense.
And, of course, there will be the bumps and bruises that come from any game - chief among them will be the seemingly broken nose suffered by Marshall Plumlee late in the second half. Despite the injury the fifth year senior returned to action just minutes after being sent to bench to receive medical treatment, and finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
